Was this what family members at MyGoodDeed.org envisioned for a 9/11 Day of Service?
Did they hope President Barack Obama’s classless energy czar, a self-describe “communist” named Van Jones, would co-opt their efforts after his group held an anti-America “vigil” on September 12, 2001 and summarized their event this way?
“That night, STORM and the other movement leaders expressed sadness and anger at the deaths of innocent working class people. We were angry, first and foremost, with the U.S. government, whose worldwide aggression had engendered such hate across the globe that working class people were not safe at home. We honored those who had lost their lives in the attack — and those who would surely lose their lives in subsequent U.S. attacks overseas.”
Did the families envision Lennox Yearwood Jr. as the conference-call coordinator of the White House’s support for their efforts after he called our invasion of Iraq “immoral” and clearly agrees with Van Jones that America brought 9/11 on itself?
“That is why the peace movement cannot only stand for harmony abroad. A cease-fire in Iraq will not end the bloodshed of the war that I live out every day. I cannot in good conscious focus on one injustice and neglect her domestic sister. But the solution goes hand in hand. We can cease the bombing of Afghanistan at the same time we clean up the streets of Los Angeles.”
Did they hope to see 9/11 promoted on MyObama dot com as a day to make two phone calls in support of national health care to “fight back against our own Right-wing domestic terrorists, [those] whipped into a frenzy by their Fox Propaganda Network?”

Or were 9/11 family members remembering when all — less a radical few — rushed in with help without stopping to ask how their 2,976 loved ones voted in the last election?
On September 11 and the days that followed, America rushed to Ground Zero with all it had, sent whatever it could to those crawling on the burning piles in New York, at the Pentagon, and just outside of Shanksville, mourned with us, and gently lifted all our families up from our knees. We remember and so does America. If a 9/11 Day of Service is about recapturing that spirit, I’m all in and will defend the effort against all comers.
Yet if this White House is using our fallen hero to gain a political edge as we debate domestic issues and if it continues to be led by revolutionaries like Van Jones and Lennox Yearwood Jr. on behalf of the Obama administration, count me out.
