9/11 Families Respond to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi

New York, NY, August, 18 — For the last four months, 9/11 families, first responders, survivors and concerned citizens have been asking where developers are getting funding for a $100-million dollar mosque and Islamic center planned for Ground Zero. The imam who is heading the project has refused to identify the source of the $5 million cash that was used to purchase the building, and told an Arab newspaper that he will get funding for the project from Arab and Muslim countries. Given the imam’s statements, that America was “an accessory to the crime” on 9/11, that “Osama Bin Laden was made in the U.S.A.” as well as his repeated refusal to condemn Hamas, we believe he has an obligation to come clean to the public on his financial sources. Our concern has been amplified by news that the imam’s worldwide “Shariah Index Project” is being funded by the Malaysian government, and that he is a principal figure in the Perdana Global Peace Project, the number one funder of the Gaza Flotilla, a violent attempt to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza.

Today we learn that instead of taking our concerns seriously, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi suggested that the opponents of the Ground Zero mosque should be investigated. This comment is clearly intended to intimidate those of us who are speaking out to preserve the sanctity of Ground Zero, where more than 20,000 human remains have been recovered, 1,845 in the last five years. We can assure Ms. Pelosi that whatever funds we have spent to get our message out, they pale in comparison to the price we have personally paid since that day, and continue to pay as a result of the mosque project. The vast majority of the American people support us. They lived through September 11 with us, and they know, as we do, that this not a “local issue.” What happened on 9/11 affected all Americans.

Thank you, Deborah, for leading this effort to prevent the building of the mosque and to have the imam’s funding sources revealed. I agree with your statement that a mosque near Ground Zero could be used and viewed as “a symbol for victory for the terrorists who perpetrated 9/11” and that we, the people, must do all we can to prevent this imam from carrying out his mission. I also agree that our political leaders (Pelosi, Obama, Bloomberg, et al) have their heads in the sand with respect to the sentiments and concerns of the American people and we must speak out to make our voices heard. Thank you for providing this forum and for being a lightenrod for this cause.

I just saw Ms. Burlingame speaking about the Pelosi comments on Fox News. You are an excellent spokesperson for this issue. I hope you will be offered many more opportunities to speak out for all of us. I can’t imagine any better reason to ensure the Republicans take back the House than to take that gavel away from Nancy Pelosi. If the people of California won’t boot her out of office then as a nation we MUST curtail her power. I will gladly make a contribution to your organization and proudly stand on any list of people this traitor wants to investigate!

It is unbelievable for us in The Netherlands that the USA is fastly becoming more and more like Europe in appeasing Islam and embracing MultiCultural views. It is not sane to believe that this is a positive step for intercultural understanding. It is already proven to be the opposite because most of the Americans and Europeans are against it and many think it will be a glorifying monument for Islam and Jihad and that it is even intended that way.
It is also strange that a Greek-Orthodox church that was destroyed in the events at 9-11 gets NO permission to rebuild. Is the political (correct) world in New-York and the USA turning things upside down there?
We wish your action to stop this Cordoba-initiative very much succes!

P.S. The Dutch government is (big material) supporter of
ASMA, also founded by Imam Rauf, and ASMA is the main-sponsor of the Cordoba-initiative. Not many Dutch support this kind of steps but the Left Church has a lot of power in the Dutch-government and civil-service.

I totally support the familes against the building of the mosque at ground zero. I live in Oklahoma City and know all too well the sting can remain from a terrorist event. Good luck to you and all the families.

9/11 changed everything for us. We live in Ohio and we will never forget it. My husband and I watched everything with tears streaming because we knew everything would be different for us and our children. We have to make everyone know that this mosque cannot happen anywhere near that sacred ground. I Nancy wants to investigate me, let her try. THIS MUST NOT HAPPEN.

My prayers are with the families. Stay Strong.

    Peggy
