Sir,

I am the father of L/Cpl Justin Sharratt. On 17 May 2006 you accused my son and his fellow Marines of killing “innocent civilians in cold blood.” In making such a statement you have denied my son, and his comrades, their constitutional rights to a fair trial. You violated their rights to due process and the presumption of innocence.

As a U. S. Congressman you took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. This is not a oath to be taken lightly. On numerous occasions you, Congressman Murtha, have made unsupported, untruthful allegations involving an ongoing Haditha investigation. You added further to these transgressions by lying to the American people as to the source of your unsupported allegations. You sir have violated this oath, you have violated this sacred trust. Marines, soldiers and sailors have been dying for over two hundred years to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. You have disgraced their sacrafices with your callous disregard for Our Haditha Marines.

The people of the United States and those of Pa Congressional District 12 deserve better in their representative, they demand better. An apology would be too late — too little. Congressman John Murtha, I ask for your resignation as the Congressional Representative of District 12 — the people of the United States demand your resignation.

God Bless Our Haditha Marines
Darryl Sharratt
Canonsburg, Pa.

Congressman Murtha,

I want to thank you for slandering one of “America’s Finest” a proud Marine. Due to your practice of declaring guilt before trial…or even a completed Investigation I am sure America has been made safe for Democracy. After spending the last 25 years of my life either in the Army or working As a Civilian employee for the Army I would like to thank you for showing your interest in our troops…with friends like you America needs no enemies.

Sir I regret to have to inform you that you are a disgrace to your office and the institution as a whole. Common decency dictates that you would resign your position after your false and careless comments regarding United States marines. Your resignation would serve to show the nation and the Corp that you still attempt to retain some honor by doing the decent thing and resigning.

——

Dear Mr. Murtha:

You owe these valiant Marines and their families a public apology for your remarks about the incident in Haditha.

You have been exposed. You are a coward, sir.

Sincerely,

Debra Burlingame

——

Congressman Murtha,

You owe the members of the armed services an apology or better yet your resignation for the vicious position you took as judge, jury and executioner of members of the Marines during the Haditha incident. So enamored with the spotlight, you condemned innocent men, doing the job they volunteered to do, without waiting for the facts to emerge. You have failed to admit your mistake. That is a sad commentary, and a testament to your lack of character. Disgraceful.

Don Gallerani

——

John Murtha,

Your conduct and statements in reference to the Haditha Marines are at best reprehensible and at worst despicable.

Long before there was any impartial investigation of the facts, you pronounced the actions of Marines engaged in combat and in the execution of their mission and defense of their comrads a criminal act. You pronounced them guilty of murder and crimes against Iraqi civilians. You dishonored the American system of justice, the congress of the United States, which belongs to the people, and most despicable of all you failed your defenders in time of war.

I was a soldier for 27 years and I never met a Marine I did not think I could trust to stand beside me and defend America, our freedom, and most of all a fellow servicemember if needed. I have always been told by Marines; “Once a Marine, always a Marine”. I do believe in your case sir, they may consider revising that statement.

I would like you to consider the following poem: “What Heaven Is To Me.”

When my life on earth is over, and I head for the promise land, I’ll see Lt. John Phillip Sousa, conducting a heavenly band,

And as I rise up to the heavens, I know I will be proud, When I see the US Air Force, flying cover o’er the clouds,

As the waves of heavenly waters, draw me closer to the door, I’ll be safe for the US Navy, is patrolling heaven’s shore,

And when I reach that shining portal, they will be standing tall and lean, Yes those pearly gates are guarded by United States Marines,

And I know how great it’s going to be, once I’m home in glory land, And I come face to face with the heroes, who gave their lives in Vietnam,

I’ll be with a great old group of veterans, once I’ve passed through heavens door, And we will be one big “Band of Brothers”, I could not ask for anything
more.

Mr. Murtha; have you no honor, no dignity, no self respect, or personal integrity? If you have even one of those traits then please at this time, step forward, apologize to the American people for your rush to judgement, the dishonor you have brought to an office of the people, and most of all the failure to support and defend your fellow Marines before the facts were known.

The most honorable thing you can do at this point is resign. Then you can pray that my poem is not really what heaven is for I would hate to be a Marine guarding the gates when you arrive. I fear my ability to forgive would be pushed to the limit.

I was just a common soldier and am now a veteran, but I will never stop serving my country, the cause of freedom, and my fellow Soldier, Sailor, Airmen, Marines, Coast Guardsmen, or any other men and women in uniform that serve in harms way to insure the freedom of the United States of America.

Congressman Murtha,

Your public statements calling our Marines in Iraq guilty of crimes before any formal investigations, or for that matter before any trial activity even begins, is an act of betrayal to our courageous Marines, their families and our Nation.

Politicians are without conscience who ride the backs of our warriors in hopes of some political gain or to push a personal agenda is despicable at best.

——

Mr. Murtha,

Your rush to judgment and the statements you made that were unsupported by facts in the case of L/Cpl Justin SHARROT and the other Marines in the combat action in Haditha are despicable to say the least. Your apology AND resignation should be forthcoming.

Sir, It appears that you have lost your Honor. You may regain some by publicly apologising to the Haditha Marines, and relieving yourself of duty. Sir, It is time to step down…Jim Diehl USN 65-71…

——

Mr. Murtha,

As a former Corpsman of Marines, I find your behavior beyond despicable. You need to apologize to the Marines you so politically tried and convicted in the press. You are a man without HONOR and should be shunned by all who have worn the Eagle ,Globe and Anchor. You have brought disgrace upon the Corps and to all of us who hold it dear.

Charles W. Leeds HM2 1965-1974

——

Dear Congressman – On behalf of the American people, the United States Marine Corps and Human Kind, I think that you owe the Haditha Marines a very big apology. Not only do you need to apologize to the Marines themselves, but you should apologize to the family members of these fine young men.

You also owe this Country an apology for what a disservice you have done to us by promoting negativity and slander of our fine servicemen and women.

This war is a horrible thing, and people like you have made it worse with your comments, poor attitude and lack of self control.

Sincerely,

Melissa Gates

——

Dear John,

You’ve noticed I’ve left off the Congressman. That’s because I don’t think you deserve to be a Congressman. When you stepped up and opened your mouth saying those (Hadita) Marines had killed civilians in cold blood, you did everyone in this country a great disservice. You put yourself up as judge and jury, just who the heck do you think you are?

I thought our legal system was based on the innocent until proven guilty format. Shame, shame, shame on you John Murtha. You owe those Marines and the rest of us citizens an apology. A Disgusted Voter, though not in your district,

Dear Congressman,

I am writing to express my feelings about the U.S. Marines who were accused by you of commiting “cold blooded murder” in Haditha, Iraq. I believe that you owe an apology to those Marines and to their families. You had no problem expressing your contempt for them before the investigation had even begun, yet now that the evidence is coming in and charges are being dropped, the silence from your office is defeaning. I find it interesting that you seem to believe any comments are unwarranted at this point in time because the investigation is ongoing. That did not seem to matter when you made your earlier comments. Offer these Marines the apologies that they deserve.

Respectfully, David A. Bounds, Oklahoma City, OK

Congressman Murtha I believe you should apologize and resign for among other things your prejudgement of and declarations about LCpl Justin Sharratt. You are a disgrace to Pennsylvania and The United States of America.

Mr. Murtha,
In service to others never forget there is no room for politics, personal agendas, or axe grinding. We are all expendable and you can and should be replaced.

——

Murtha,
I cannot bring myself to render the honorable prefix of Senator to your name because of the way you have treated our military. As a combat Vietnam Vet myself, I am ashamed of your willingness to play into the hands of our enemy. That same enemy who will chop off your head when he gets the chance. Do you not realize the gravity of our country’s situation? We are fighting for our lives and you want to play nice with the most brutal killers in our recent history. Never ever disrespect our valiant fighting forces again with your insane, irresponsible, and false accusations. Do you realize that your traitorous actions put you down there with Hanoi Jane and John Kerry?

You used to be a man of honor. Please return to your past honorable ways and I will accept you as a brother in arms once again. I expect you to apologize for slandering our Marine LCpL Sharratt (as well as our entire military) and resigning as the honorable thing to do.

One died for your soul; the other for your freedom.

——

Congressman Murtha,

I am appalled that you were so quick to rush to judgement of a fellow serviceman, much less a Marine. Now, with the investigation finished and the forensic evidence backing the account of LCpl Sharratt, I feel that the very least that you could do would be to apologize to this fine Marine.

Your behavior, in my opinion, makes you unfit to bear the title Marine.

Sincerely,

Katrina Gaffney

——

Congressman Murtha,

We deeply appreciate your thoughts on the guilt of LCplpl Justin Sharratt. With fine people like yourself in Congress we Americans should be able to save a lot of cash on all of those stupid trials to prove guilt of innocence. What a waste of time and money. It is my sincere hope that the wonderful people who voted you into office remember in the next election how bravely you supported our troops, their sons , daughters, husbands and wife’s. I would send a contribution to you re election campaign but I am saving that cash for KY Jelly in order to relieve your next rant on the military.

——

Mr. Murtha,

If you cannot fully support our troops while they are in the field on a mission to save OUR country, then please feel free to stand in front of them. Your reckless habit of pronouncing innocent people guilty according to YOUR definition, is a danger to OUR troops and OUR country. Perhaps you would be more comfortable living on another continent, since you obviously hate the one you reside in.

Congressman Murtha,

Being an American Citizen all of my life, being born and raised in the MidWest and serving in the Marine Corps during Vietnam I am writing to you in hopes you will allow the legal justice system to operate without corruption. In this day we see so much about injustice that I find it hard to believe the prosecution of an American Fighting Man or Woman should waste the tax payers money or the valuable time of the court systems, civil or military.

It seems the Lance Corporal spoke, his words have been backed up by factual evidence, please allow the facts to prevail and justice for all to be reinstated.

IT’S HARD TO REMAIN CIVIL IN RESPONDING TO THE VERY HURTFUL AND TRAITOROUS STATEMENTS ISSUED BY THE LIKES OF JOHN MURTHA, AS WELL AS OTHERS OF HIS ILK. THEIR ONE COMMON DENOMINATOR SEEMS TO BE AN ALMOST PATHOLOGICAL HATRED OF THE PRESIDENT AND TO REMAIN IN OFFICE BY ANY MEANS POSSIBLE, EVEN TO THE EXTENT OF DENYING OUR MILITARY FOLKS ALL THE SUPPORT THEY SURELY DESERVE. MURTHA, ET AL ARE A BUNCH OF SELFISH COWARDS.

PETE SCRIBNER (USAF KOREA 1952/53), JAMESTOWN,NC

——

You, sir are an embarrassment to your office in the congress, and to the military armed forces. You should get down on your knees in front of the pentagon and make as much of an effort to publicly apologize as you made to slander innocent men. And then you should resign from office and turn in your honorable discharge to the Secretary of Defense.

Is it possible that you are a turncoat because you could not be promoted on up the officer grades due to your ineptitude?…Or is is because you think it will endear you to a bunch of spineless liberals such as yourself. I was in the Marine Corps for 9 1/2 years and sir I know what a Marine is made of!! You are NOT a Marine. — Don
