Ron Paul fails math test on mass murder

The Baltimore Sun reports:

Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul contends that the federal government has overreacted by limiting personal freedom in the wake of terrorist attacks six years ago, noting more people die on U.S. highways in less than a month’s time compared to the number who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001 … “A lot fewer lives died on 9/11 than they do in less than a month on our highways, but once again, who owns the highways? Do we own the highways? No. It’s a government institution you know … We need to put all this in perspective, [Ron Paul said].”

Let me school Congressman Paul on 9/11. The hijacking of Flight 11 began at 8:14 a.m and the North Tower fell at 10:28 a.m., killing 2,973 people in 134 minutes. Playing Rep. Paul’s cold numbers game, that is about 22 per minute. Had the carnage continued at that rate for a 30 day month, 950,400 people would have been slaughtered. If our domestic murder rate spiked from the current 17,000 people [per] year to over 11 million, I believe Americans would demand that our military be deployed here. Instead, we’ve sent it to fight those who rejoiced at how fast Americans died on 9/11 and who would do it again.

Recent intelligence reports indicate one of al Qaeda’s plots is a coordinated, wholesale attack upon America’s children. As Ron Paul cannot tell the difference between a traffic accident and mass murder, or even pass a simple math test, I will not vote to place Ron Paul in charge of preventing such an attack.

But then, I would not vote for him if he was running for school-crossing guard either.
