The New York Post says:
A group representing Sept. 11 families offered a $1,000 reward to “any American who can get a straight answer” from Clinton. “It’s offensive to us that she can’t even say if she is for or against licensing terrorists,” said Peter Gadiel, president of 9/11 Families for a Secure America. Gadiel’s son, James, 23, a Cantor Fitzgerald employee, was killed on Sept. 11, 2001.
Clinton spokesman Blake Zeff said, “It looks like they’ll be sending the charity of our choice a thousand dollars, because Sen. Clinton’s position on this is crystal clear.”
Mr. Blake is correct, her position is “crystal clear” now. We were confused two years ago. The 57 state-issued drivers license and ID cards the 9/11 hijackers obtained helped them move around the United States while preparing to murder 2,973 people, including 1,747 New Yorkers. So, Senator Clinton voted to enact ‘The Real ID Act of 2005‘ which says, for federal purposes, if a drivers license applicant cannot show they are a citizen or national of the United States, they have to show they are an, “alien lawfully admitted for permanent or temporary residence in the United States.”
The Washington Post points out Senator Clinton’s position today:
“Senator Clinton supports governors like Governor Spitzer who believe they need such a measure to deal with the crisis caused by this administration’s failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform. As President, her goal will be to pass comprehensive immigration reform that would make this unnecessary,” the statement said. Campaign advisers, pressed to explain her view more clearly, said that she ultimately supports the driver’s-license proposal.
Under Governor Spitzer’s plan, New York licenses to illegals would comply with ‘Real ID.’ Terrorists can get a license to drive yet they would not be able to use them to board airplanes or enter federal buildings.
We gotcha, Senator Clinton.
You are for facilitating terrorist travel within the United States; they just have to drive there. We sure hope they get car insurance, just in case they only have an accident.
Thank you for clearing up our misunderstanding of where you stand on that issue.
