Times Square bomber Faisal Shahzad was sentenced to life in prison today after pleading guilty to charges he attempted to conduct the terrorist attack. Afterward, White House spokesman Nick Shapiro said. “The case shows once again how our values and the rule of law can keep us safe against those determined to do us harm on behalf of terrorist organizations overseas.”
Keep America Safe chairman Liz Cheney responded to the Obama Administration’s reaction:
“President Obama and his administration still seem to believe they can keep this nation safe by convicting terrorists in civilian courts. We tried that policy throughout the 1990s and gained convictions of key terrorists. None of those convictions prevented the terrorists from attacking us again and again. Americans expect their government to disrupt plots and defeat terrorists before they can attack us. The Times Square bomber’s attack failed not because it was thwarted, but because his bomb failed to detonate. Being lucky is not a responsible counterterrorism strategy, and convictions in civilian courts will not keep this country safe.”
Caroline Glick sends, “Here’s the newest installment in Latma’s English language musical crash course in reality perception. We bring you The Three Terrors! Enjoy and spread it far and wide. Personally, I hope the good folks in Iran’s Green Movement get a kick out of it.”

Bill Roggio of the Long War Journal reported that the Taliban video taking credit for the attempted bombing in Times Square was created in April and uploaded from Connecticut before the attack:
The YouTube website that hosted the video was created by a group calling itself the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan News Channel. The website was created one day before the failed attack, and the video was also uploaded one day before the attack, The Long War Journal first reported on May 2.
Far worse than being hacks for political correctness, Mayor Michael Bloomberg (“Maybe … someone with a political agenda who doesn’t like the health care bill…”) and Congressman Jerrold Nadler (“Whether they were some right-wing nut group…”) endanger their constituents by averting attention away from the real danger, those who have made at least 31 attempts to attack us here on U.S. soil since September 11, 2001.
Mark Levin spoke of this on last night’s Sean Hannity Show:
“[Terrorists] are making a run at us … because they sense weakness, they sense that we have our guard down … It is obviously fundamental Islam. It is not 40-year old white guys. … We are talking about protecting this country and these guys play group, racial politics.”
Faisal Shahzad, a 30-year-old U.S. citizen from Pakistan, was arrested last night at JFK airport after authorities discovered he was aboard a plane that had left the gate and was preparing to take off for Dubai. He had recently returned from an extended trip to Pakistan. Authorities also have evidence of an “international connection.” Obviously, that translates to Shahzad had help of some kind from Islamic terrorists abroad and the Obama administration is playing it down at this point in the investigation. Daniel Foster at the National Review Online reports:
Police have arrested Faisal Shahzad, a 30-year-old U.S. citizen from Pakistan, in connection with the attempted Times Square bombing. Shahzad is believed to be the purchaser of the SUV used in the plot, and was apprehended at about 11:00 P.M. Monday while already on-board a flight to Dubai from JFK International Airport … International phone records reportedly show calls between Shazhad and/or other suspects and overseas elements; and evidence at the crime scene, including potential fingerprints, also reportedly suggest an international connection.
We will soon learn that Shahzad had some contact with Islamic terrorists in Pakistan. How much training and assistance they provided him is not clear at this time.
